Have you ever felt lost trying to figure out what it really means to follow Jesus?
Do you wonder if the Bible can be trusted or what exactly the gospel is?
Maybe you’ve carried hurt from past religion or the LDS (Mormon) church and secretly wish there was a “Christianity for beginners” guide that made it all clear.
This podcast is your safe space to take baby steps in faith and finally understand what it means to be a Christian.
Inside Finding Faith Above, you’ll learn the Christian basics for new believers—who God is, why the gospel matters, and how to walk with Jesus day by day without overwhelm or confusion.
If you’ve longed for peace, truth, and confidence in your relationship with Christ, this is where you’ll find it.
I’m Shelby Hohsfield, a former Mormon who spent 20 years after leaving the chruch searching through religion, doubt, and confusion before finding freedom in the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I know what it feels like to start from scratch, to question everything, and to need things explained simply.
That’s why I created this podcast—to walk with you as you grow in faith, learn truth from Scripture, and experience the love of Jesus for yourself.
So grab your Bible and hit play.
It’s time to take your first baby steps toward real faith, real freedom, and the real Jesus.
xoxo, Shelby

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Finding Faith Above is hosted by Shelby Hohsfield. Shelby grew up in a mixed-faith home and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon or LDS) church until she was 18. As most people do when they leave the church, 85% actually, Shelby left God altogether when she left the LDS church. It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her son that God was made evident to her.
From there sparked a quest to FIND FAITH, a fleeting idea that challenged her at every step.
After trying all matters of religion for years, she was struck one night when some big things literally brought her to her knees- When things got super hard, it was the surrender to the one true God that changed everything about Shelby’s life, belief, and understanding of this universe we live in.
After a 20-year journey after leaving the church, she finally found faith above.
As Jesus asked us to do, Shelby now dedicates herself to the great commission- telling the world the good news of Jesus.

Does God Hear Me? The # 1 Way to Hear From God and How YOU Can Know God is Listening?
Are you worried that your prayers will always go unheard? How do we talk to God in an honest and authentic way and how do we get answers?
Well first off, God is not going to give us a yes to stupid questions. So don't ask Him things like, "God, please make this crazy, blaspheming thing true so I can join the club and be happy." I say this from experience, He is not going to say okay.
But in today's episode, we are going to be talking about the number one way to hear from God and how you can know God is listening.
Spoiler- It's not in the heeps of blessings. It all has to do with the peace in the storm.

What was in the Beginning? Pre-existence, a heavenly war, and The Beautiful Words of John 1:1. How Big is God?
I have spent the last week talking to all of you ladies. It's been emotional. In the last episode, we talked about those families and how incredibly hard it is when we leave the church and all the dynamics of the relationships. The aftermath, if you will. Talking with you all broke my heart in so many ways. But another theme was present with all of you. Prayer. If you had found Jesus and were building a relationship with Him, you had a good Christian friend that has sat and prayed with you. Many of you said, "I had never heard a prayer like that!" If you are still searching and trying to navigate this post-Mormon or post religion landscape you flat out said, "I don't know how to pray. How do you speak to Him and how does He speak to you?" So instead of airing an interview today, I decided we needed to do something else- we need to pray.

The Biggest Struggle after Leaving the Church- Family
Today we are talking about the biggest struggle we face when we leave the church- family; its place with God, hurting loved ones, and having the courage to talk in the face of worldly shame.
Let me just share this before we go further-
This episode is going to be about validating. I don't have the answers. I have been so blessed to talk to so many women who have left the church. I listen to their stories and I listen to their struggles. I wish I could say I could fix their number one concern, but I can't. What I can do and what I plan to do in this podcast today is share some likely scenarios you may face or be facing after leaving religion.
And then I'm going to give you some words from God. He is the peace in the storm.

Is there a true church?
Do you have the courage to find out?
What is the church? I tell you what it’s not- four walls. And it definitely is not what we knew as 'the church' the only true church when we were LDS. What does the Bible actually say about what the church is? This is a big one today- We are talking about what is God‘s church?
Take me to the full shownotes so I can watch the videos and learn more!

Be grateful in everything--even the bumpy rides ... is Robin Luftig's mantra while either writing or speaking to audiences on healing after tragedy. The central theme to all her messages--grace is available for everyone.
This episode is really going to speak to you today. I have had so many messages asking, "what are my next steps on where to go when I'm trying to find faith? I'm at this place where I'm not quite sure what happens after I've said, okay, Jesus take the wheel."
This episode speaks volumes.
