I’m Shelby Hohsfield, a former Mormon who spent 20 years after leaving the chruch searching through religion, doubt, and confusion before finding freedom in the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I know what it feels like to start from scratch, to question everything, and to need things explained simply.
That’s why I created this podcast—to walk with you as you grow in faith, learn truth from Scripture, and experience the love of Jesus for yourself.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Finding Faith Above is hosted by Shelby Hohsfield. Shelby grew up in a mixed-faith home and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon or LDS) church until she was 18. As most people do when they leave the church, 85% actually, Shelby left God altogether when she left the LDS church. It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her son that God was made evident to her.
From there sparked a quest to FIND FAITH, a fleeting idea that challenged her at every step.
After trying all matters of religion for years, she was struck one night when some big things literally brought her to her knees- When things got super hard, it was the surrender to the one true God that changed everything about Shelby’s life, belief, and understanding of this universe we live in.
After a 20-year journey after leaving the church, she finally found faith above.
As Jesus asked us to do, Shelby now dedicates herself to the great commission- telling the world the good news of Jesus.

I admit I used to consider myself a total self-help junkie. The world wants to tell you you just need to dig deep and find the strength within. You can do all things if you just focus enough, plan right, have the motivation, do the thing from this mystical inner strength that is just supposed to exist within you. I believed that and simultaneously thought there was just something inherently wrong with me that I could not make this happen. Why could everyone else do this? In an effort to give me all the confidence and inner strength, these self-help concepts left me feeling like a failure. If I was supposed to have all the power to do this on my own, why was I consistently grasping at straws to keep myself together?? Where was this inner strength? Why was I unable to make it all happen and feeling lost in the process. More in this episode…

Why Read Romans? Because it is my jam! Actually, because many consider this to be the greatest literary works of all time. It lays out the Gospel, salvation, and God’s love to ALL people who come to Him. It helped me tremendously as I tend to want to be an overachiever, depend on works for worth, and have a past of believing that is how you gain God’s favor. But Romans says otherwise. Our salvation comes from what He has already done for us, not what we will ever do. We must die in the flesh, accept His gift of Grace and be reborn in the spirit of Jesus Christ. That is Romans and it is amazing.
In this passage…
Paul gives an opening statement.
He explains who he is and who he is in Christ. He is an apostle of God on a mission to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He then explains his desire to visit Rome and why. He wants to bless them with spiritual gifts and in turn, be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. He plans to bring the Gospel to all, Jews and Gentiles alike.
Then he explains the intent of the letter- the power of God’s Salvation to everyone who believes. Faith.

In today's episode, we are talking about 7 Verses- Biblical Advice for a Tween Girl in Today’s World. First, baby girl, you have to listen. Listen to your parents who love you. Second, you have to deny the sins overtaking this world. You cannot let them in. You cannot become a fool. Third, you have to have hope, hope in the Lord, and know that the hard times will build you up. Forth, you need to know God will help you. He is your strength. He is your refuge. Fifth, you have to know how He knows you- completely with steadfast love. Sixth, because we know this, we have to know that before we battle this world, we have to put on the armor of God. And lastly, we have to know that as we go out into the world, into this battle with our armor on, unphased, with perseverance and hope, we have to know that He changed us with the unique and beautiful task of being the light to shine before men. Praise be to our Father in Heaven.

Growing up under the rules of man-made religion, what are the struggles that you deal with when you break these chains and find freedom in Jesus? Getting out of our own way to accept Grace is pivotal. This is what we are talking about in today’s post.
When you grow up believing that breaking the man-made rules means that you are rotten, the love that is grace is hard to accept. But, the peace of accepting Grace and letting it go, knowing that you are enough in Him, is life-changing.

In today's Podcast we are discussing; How do we go about leading someone to the Lord? Can we give someone faith? What you need to know. As we all move forward to grow in our relationship with Jesus and further our faith, I challenge all of you, including myself, to remember these three things- Let judgment aside. That is not our job. Love. Love God and love each other. Show everyone, even those that drive us crazy, show them love. And lastly, lead by example. The example is what will lead others to the Lord.

When we walk away from everything we ever knew about who we through God is we can feel very lost for a long time. How do we support someone who is lost in life? How do we help ourselves when we are there? We have to learn to respect God’s timing and His process. Not everything is going to flow the way we think it should. His will be done. We also have to re-train ourselves to know that our feelings are our gauge, not our guide. We have to learn to turn to the word for answers and to know Him, not base our decisions on feelings as they can lead us astray. We don’t have all the answers. God wants to be our guide. And lastly, we need to learn to be still. To trust in Him to work it all out. Learn to understand surrender.

Lay it down at the foot of the cross.
Today we are talking about how do we move forward when we are going through struggles and holding onto regret?
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose,” Phillippians 2:13
Hold onto God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Lean on Him and know that He will hold your hand through the storm. Make no room for regret. Instead, trust. And finally, know that our purpose is to know our Lord Jesus and make Him known. Let His will be done and trust in the Lord.

Is Alcohol an Idol? What about Social Media, Food, or Even Friendships? Are these things zapping our potential in the Lord?
Today I’m talking to the host of the Set Free Sisterhood podcast and alcohol-free coach, Michelle Porterfield. Michelle is a mama of three and wifey in South Carolina. Her mission is to help women learn that they have control of their thoughts and actions.
Together with removing alcohol, she helps women see their value, strength, and true identity while removing the stronghold of alcohol, renewing the mind, and rebuilding a life of fulfillment.
Michelle accepted Jesus at a very young age, but reliance on other things of this world instead of a relationship with God lead her down a path with a steep fork in the road.
What Michelle lovingly calls her ‘bathtub moment’ would be the point that changed her life for good.
