That’s why I created this podcast—to walk with you as you grow in faith, learn truth from Scripture, and experience the love of Jesus for yourself.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Finding Faith Above is hosted by Shelby Hohsfield. Shelby grew up in a mixed-faith home and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon or LDS) church until she was 18. As most people do when they leave the church, 85% actually, Shelby left God altogether when she left the LDS church. It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her son that God was made evident to her.
From there sparked a quest to FIND FAITH, a fleeting idea that challenged her at every step.
After trying all matters of religion for years, she was struck one night when some big things literally brought her to her knees- When things got super hard, it was the surrender to the one true God that changed everything about Shelby’s life, belief, and understanding of this universe we live in.
After a 20-year journey after leaving the church, she finally found faith above.
As Jesus asked us to do, Shelby now dedicates herself to the great commission- telling the world the good news of Jesus.

Are you ready to go on a Jesus Journey? You’re invited! I know what it is like to have so many questions about the Christian faith. I know what it is like to feel like an outsider because you see these beautiful women who have the essence of faith that just surrounds them, and you don’t. You want faith. I know what it is like to be religiously homeless. I didn’t know what it looked like to have a life where I lived faith. I also was in no position to help anyone else. At times in my past, I was an ex-Mormon, a Sunday Christian, New-age, a want-to-be Buddhist, into Eckhart Tole, and loved Oprah more than I knew God. But all that changed when I fully discovered what it means to surrender to the one true King and to know our Creator.
Here, at Finding Faith Above, we are diving headstrong into the three need-to-know steps to our Jesus Journey-
1) Find Faith- We are going to discuss why we should trust the Bible, who is God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and the Trinity. We are going to talk about different theological concepts and views. We are going to learn what the word theology even means. We are going to learn about God, so we can open our hearts to trust God.
2) Live Faith- Here, we are going to get to know God. Once we trust Him and His word we can live in His will. We are going to build a relationship with Him. We are going to read His word and discover His Wisdom from Above.
3) Give Faith- The great commission- The last thing Jesus ever told us to do was to go out and make disciples of all nations. Our purpose is to know God and make Him known. How can you use your spiritual gifts to make that happen?
Here, we are answering honest questions, trusting God, and building a relationship rooted in the wisdom of His word. We are finding faith above. This podcast is dedicated to you who are ready for this Jesus Journey. You are hungry to know Him and fill that Jesus-sized hole in your heart. You don’t want to sit in Bible study and feel like the loner who just doesn’t get it. You are loved by our Creator. Here, we are answering honest questions, trusting God, and building a relationship rooted in the wisdom of His word. We are finding faith above.

Today's Challenge will take you from religion to relationship...
...today's challenge, if you chose to accept it, try reading the bible as we discussed.
Spend as little as 5 minutes reading His word. Pick a spot. It does not have to be in order. In between clients at the salon, I'll often pop open my pocket bible to psalms and read just one. Then take a few minutes to talk to God about it. What questions do you have for Him? What are your worries? What are your praises? Then do what the Bible tells us and meditate on His word. Think about what you read and let your heart be open to what it says to you. Sometimes it takes days, months years before it all makes sense.
God's timing is perfect.
Just open your heart to His perfect will.

I remember so many times growing up being around gals who had faith. It was just something in the way they were so at peace. I, on the other hand, was a constant questioner. Faith was not my strong point.

Today is going to be a different kind of Episode. In fact, this whole podcast is about to go through a bit of a change, a transformation to a bit more of a peaceful place.
I have been praying.
I have really been asking God to help me.
I know when I ask, truly ask for help I also have to be open to listening. Obedience is what He asks for. A good friend reminded me the other day that He doesn't promise success, but He does ask for obedience. In that comes trust.
Why should you care? Well, this whole podcast is for you and it's changing. Hang tight. I'll get there.

Just because we become Christian does not mean our walk is a straightforward path. Our Guest today started with no God in her life, new-age, Scientology. In fact, she likens herself to Paul. He was against Christians and then had a radical transformation to become one.
But life is not simple and we all have our vulnerabilities.
In this two-part episode we are going to follow Athena Dean Holtz on a journey from God-hating, Scientology, a Christian awakening, vulnerable spots of deception, a 13-year walk in a toxic and restrictive cult and then God's amazing, redeeming love.
The life story of Athena Dean Holtz is a tale of a search for affirmation, meaning, and significance that trapped her in spiritual deception and caused her to lose everything she had. Fiction? No. Absolutely true. It is also a story of restoration and a love lost and found.
Out of the great loss of her marriage, family relationships, home, her reputation, and a twenty-year career in publishing after twelve years in a toxic and restrictive cult, has come great restoration. Athena Dean Holtz now uses her growing and multi-faceted platform to encourage and uplift others through sharing the faithfulness of God in her life and in the lives of others.
Her turnaround story continues. The founder and publisher of the hybrid Redemption Press, and was named Best Female Podcast Host of the Year (2021) by the national Spark Media Conference. The All Things Podcast uses Romans 8:28 as a theme. She is an author, publisher, YouTuber and follower of Jesus.

Today is the show's 50th episode. I can't believe it! This has been such an exciting journey.
Let me just take you all back a minute.
2020 rocked most of our lives. It was a wild ride. For me, it meant a faith transformation like I had never thought possible. Somewhere in the mix of all the trying to figure out how to keep going I listened to a podcast where there was a guest named Stef Gass. She was a podcast coach, but she did something totally different than all the other self-help and business coaches were saying. She talked about making God in charge of your life and business and living your God-led calling.
I knew God needed to be the center of my life. I had already told Him whatever He wanted me to do I would do.
Little did I know that He was about to tell me that my calling was going to be to talk to and help ladies that had left the church I had been avoiding for the last 20 years.
Sometimes He can have a sense of humor, but when God speaks, I learned it is best to listen.
